Insistence put in an impressive performance to take home the Listed Carlton Draught Classic Fillies and Mares Plate 1200m at Eagle Farm on the weekend.
The Gillian Heinrich-trained mare proved a class act bolting to the lead from barrier 16 and extending her lead over the home straight to take home an emphatic win and $48,000 in prizemoney.
With jockey Michael Palmer in the saddle, Insistence’s form was too good for the $2.50 favourite On The Fridge (Shane Scriven) who ran second by one and three quarters of a length, while Seconde (Anthony Pattillo) finished third another length and a half back.
Trainer Gillian Heinrich said Insistence’s speed out of the blocks set her up for the convincing win. “When I saw we had drawn horror barrier 16 I was worried, but it was very helpful that they let us cross as easy as they did. She is quite fast and in both her other runs she’s led them. We were very happy with how she got out.”
Insistence (M5 Black Hawk-Opportune) is providing a good return for the Heinrich Bloodstock syndicate with a 6-5-3-1 record from 20 starts including a win at the Fillies and Mares NMW Handicap 1200m at Eagle Farm on November 15.
“The owners are all over the moon with her form,” said Heinrich. “We couldn’t fault her. From the three starts she’s had back she has gone from a no metropolitan win race to win a Listed Fillies and Mares.”
Jockey Michael Palmer has been instrumental in the recent form. Trainer Heinrich said, “Michael Palmer has ridden her this whole prep. She has improved and matured. We’re lucky to have her on the right leg at the right time.”
Spurred on by the recent good form, the next port of call for Insistence is the Magic Millions.
“It will be interesting next start to see if she can keep that form going,” said Heinrich. “I can’t see why she couldn’t.”
