Chris Munce has returned to racing in Queensland flexing his muscles with a feature race win at Eagle Farm on Saturday, February 27.
The $100,000 Listed Cleandomain Falvelon Handicap 1200m could be a sign of things to come as the top hoop overcame testing conditions to give Motspur a sweet run to the post.
The seven-year-old Flying Spur gelding, out of Crusading Lil (USA), took the box seat on the rail just behind pacesetter Nuclear Medicine and simply outlasted his opposition on a rain affected track.
“He jumped much better today,” Munce said. “He’s been a bit tardy out of the barriers
“He was perfect today. He travelled strong and gave a good kick.”
The jockey has notched five wins since his comeback in mid-January and could be a real force during the upcoming Queensland Winter Racing Carnival.
Broadmeadow-based trainer Kris Lees raced Motspur outside New South Wales for the first time, but will return to Newcastle after his raid on the north.
“It was a nice race for him,” Lees said. “The track conditions probably suited.”
The seven-year-old has recorded seven wins from his 27 starts to accumulate $260,310 in prizemoney.
It was a southern stampede as Motspur relegated two fellow New South Welshmen to the minor placings.
Coffs Harbour-based Nuclear Medicine finished two and a half lengths behind in second.

The six-year-old gelding, with Scott Thurlow onboard, has tackled the Brisbane challenge from his Mid North Coast Gordon Yorke stables on many occasions and his last victory came on the Eagle Farm course in June 2008.
The Jackal, ridden by Robert Thompson for Paul St Vincent, finished a further two lengths in arrears.
The seven-year-old gelding, who won two weeks prior at Eagle Farm over the same trip, finished strongly but could not overcome being held three wide for the journey.
Thompson suggested the gelding appreciates a firmer surface.
