Interstate rivalry took centre stage at the Gold Coast, but there were few heated moments as the aim was to give local and visiting apprentice jockeys a broader vision of national racing.
The third leg of the 2009/10 National Apprentice Series on Wednesday, March 10 saw hoops from each state and the Northern Territory benefit from their experience on an unfamiliar track, which will take place around the nation.
Scott Hillebrand of the Northern Territory took line honours in the Qld Government DETNA Series Class 3 Plate 1300m on the John Morrisey-trained Mr Nappy.
However, Queenslanders should be proud of our up-and-coming jockeys who filled positions two through to five, led by second and third placed Mitchell Speers and Ashley Butler, who were followed by Skye Bogenhuber and Alisha Taylor.
After the Gold Coast event was heralded a success, the next instalment of the apprentice series takes place at the Morphetville track of South Australia on April 28.
