Brilliantes didn’t do herself any favours at Doomben in February when she began to buck shortly after the start. Returning with a trial win under her belt, the Falvelon filly was sent out a short-priced favourite and won by the best part of three lengths under Jim Byrne. She is a younger half-sister to Eagle Farm winner Notre Amour (Show A Heart). Their dam has a yearling filly by Easy Rocking and a weanling colt by Falvelon.

Willowie Lad confirmed the win of Brilliantes was no fluke when he returned from an inauspicious debut to win at Ipswich. Beaten badly at Eagle Farm in March, the Iglesia gelding finished two lengths astern of Brilliantes in a trial on July 1. Hymn To Her has a yearling filly by Pure Theatre and was covered by Break The Vault. She is a winning half-sister to Sengiggi Beach (Acecay), a winner of the Wellington Boot 2YO Hcp who was later G2 placed in the VRC Let’s Elope Stakes.

T-Robert Wilson (Sunshine Coast)
$15,000 buy 2006 Capricorn Yearling Sale; V-Palm View Stud
Promising gelding Abirra caused a $15 upset when he collared Burdekin Blues to score by a neck. Trainer Robert Wilson said Abirra had raced without luck during the winter carnival. "I gave him two weeks off and he blossomed," Wilson said. "I'll start him again and then tip him out for a spell."
Raced by Rockhampton couple David Rowe and Caroline Day, Abirra is by Easy Rocking from a very smart mare who won 8 races in Brisbane over a decade ago. Jazz Heaven has an unnamed 2yo colt by Mr Innocent and a yearling filly by Intergaze.
Gold Coast – July 12

O-N & M Oberthur; B-D C & D L Steward
T-Bill Thornton (Caloundra)
$5,500 buy 2006 MM Gold Coast Premier Sale; V-Wattle Brae
Indiana Storm was a good thing beaten in a mile race at Doomben in May but he failed at three subsequent starts over shorter trips. Stretched out to 1800m, he finally broke through at start No.20 by two lengths and change. His sire was the first son of A.P. Indy to stand in Australia but was not well patronized and faded from view. His dam Pelican Dancer foaled five winners before retiring in 2005 including the dam of My Limit.
Toowoomba – July 12
LADY LESIA 2f Iglesia – Matahoom (Squill)
WON Lanes Interiors Hcp (1000m) QTIS $12,700
O-M McNamara, J Stokes, J Busuttin, C Round & M Kynoch; B-L Verra
T-Darryl Gollan (Toowoomba)
Not catalogued for 2007 majors
Lady Lesia had her hoof right on the till after a couple of unlucky outings at Toowoomba and a last-start placing at Doomben. With Skye Bogenhuber claiming 3kg, the Iglesia filly spread-eagled the field. It was 7 lengths to the third horse home. Lady Lesia is set for a successful career if anything like her dam Matahoom, 14 times a winner from 1000 to 2100m. Her second dam is a winning half-sister to G1 winners Brewery Boy and Lygon Arms. Lady Lesia has a yearling half-brother by Zaha.
