Power of George had the right speed to win the AHS Hockey QTIS 3YO Handicap 1000m.
The Falvelon-gelding has proved an honest horse for Gold Coast owners, the Dunn family only placing out the prizemoney once.
From eight starts, Power of George (G3 Falvelon-Jessipic) has produced four wins all in races up to 1000m. He also placed third in the Listed Ken Russell Classic 1200m and fourth in the Group 2 Champagne Classic 1200m.
His latest win at Eagle Farm on Saturday, November 15 followed up on a 900m win at the Gold Coast a month earlier bringing his prizemoney total to $143,200 including $46,900 in QTIS bonuses.
Ridden by Jason Taylor, who has now been aboard for three of his wins, Power of George produced an all the way win at Eagle Farm on Saturday, November 15.
High Roll’n Woman (Jim Byrne) and $2.80 race favourite Congenial (Luke Rolls) battled it out for the placings but the favourite scored second a half head in front of High Roll’n Woman.
Trainer Helen Page remains impressed with the gelding’s speedy turn of foot.
“The horse has enormous speed,” said Page.
“Having not drawn a good barrier, he ended up running from barrier 11, with one of the top weights with 57 and a half we knew it was going to be tough.
“But if he didn’t clear them he would be caught deep. He has natural speed so we used that, went to the lead and then he managed to blast away, have a turn of foot in the straight and win by a length and a quarter.
“He’s typical of the Falvelon’s. They show you something early and they’re honest and easy to train. I find him just a little gem!
“At this stage he’s a very good horse up to a 1000m. He wasn’t beaten far in the Ken Russell, he ran third over the 1200m.
“But at this stage he’s really excelling over the short courses and I guess as he gets older he’ll get over further.”
