After a long spell Jazz Heart has again risen to the occasion picking up a QTIS win at City Pacific Doomben on Saturday, August 16.
Duplicating his last win in a QTIS 2YO Handicap in early February, Jazz Heart (C3 Show a Heart-Bluedanu) again raced from the back of the field. This time in the Lyndhurst Stud QTIS 3YO Handicap 1200m he and jockey Ric McMahon were in control from the very start.
The topweight sat at the end of the pack from the jump from the outside barrier 11. At the 600m they started to move up and at the home turn they had speed in reserve to storm home down the outside to win by one and a quarter lengths.
Woorim (Eddie Wilkinson) placed second half a neck in front of Chilled (Bobby El-Issa).
Bundall trainer Bryan Guy was happy with the way the race was run. “He drew the wide alley and I said to Ric don’t bustle him early just let him find where he’d be comfortable,” he said.
“I said if you’ve got to go back to get him, go back. He did exactly that and the horse travelled beautiful. Coming to the 600m he was going very easily. Ric moved up around them and just come and give him a clear run and he just picked them up very quick.”
Jazz Heart has been out of action since he placed eighth in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic in late March.
Guy was not confident in the colt’s chances upon returning but he was very happy with the way he did come back.
“Only because I know we’ve got a long way to go with him this preparation, well we’re hoping. And he wasn’t right at his top. I think there’s a lot of improvement still in him so I thought the run was great.”
“He looks magnificent the horse, he’s come back really good.”
He has now earned $126,000 for owner and breeder Stanley Leszczewicz including $41,200 in QTIS bonuses. From his five starts there has been the two QTIS wins and he also placed second in the Listed J.F. Meynink Stakes 1000m.
Looking to the future for the colt, Guy is hopeful the best is yet to come. “We’re just going to have a look and see how he goes here and we might take him to Sydney. Our main idea is probably to have a crack at the Caulfield Guineas with him later on if he’s going good enough,” he said.
