Queensland
Racing Limited makes policies to help it manage the
racing industry fairly, efficiently
and effectively.
Under section 81 of the Racing Act 2002, Queensland
Racing Limited must make policies for 23 separate areas
and under section 84, these policies must be
publicly available. Queensland Racing Limited also
makes policies in other areas for the good
management of the industry.
Consultation drafts of policies allow the
wider racing industry to have its say on policies
that affect it. Draft policies are publicised
for a minimum of 28 days.
Anyone with an interest in racing can make
a submission on a draft policy. Submissions
should be in writing and reach Queensland Racing Limited
before the end of the consultation period for
the particular policy.
Exceptional circumstances may require Queensland
Racing Limited to make a policy urgently, without formal
consultation with industry. If this occurs,
the interim policy will be reviewed within
three months and will not continue after six
months unless the usual formal consultation
process is undertaken.
