Will The Freedman Colt Hold Off QTIS Charge?

WHILE Melbourne colt, Chut, is the early favourite for the Ambassador Travel QTIS 2YO Colts & Geldings Handicap at Eagle Farm tomorrow, there are still some strong QTIS chances in the race.

Chut is trained by Lee Freedman, who won the same race last year with Mannakarma and should race well first-up following a good second in a Deagon barrier trial on June 1.

At his only start, Chut ran fourth at Moonee Valley in December over 1000m, but looks better suited by the 1200m of tomorrow’s race.

Toowoomba colt Encierro, a son of leading first season sire Mossman, is one of the top chances to take the QTIS winner’s cheque of $56,500, coming into the race 2kg under the minimum with the claim for Yoshi Yamazaki.

The Michael Nolan-trained Encierro ran a good fourth at Eagle Farm on debut on Boxing Day, despite the fact that he was extremely shin sore after the race.

Since spelling, Encierro resumed in Toowoomba over 900m on May 22, winning well with 57kg, which is 5kg more then he will carry at Eagle Farm.

Trainer Ron Macrae has also gone for a claim with his good QTIS colt, Heavenly Cruise, which will only have to carry 56kg after the claim for apprentice Carl Spry.

Heavenly Cruise has two wins and three placings from his seven starts and comes into this race off a good third to boom two-year-old Golden Fox in the Listed Golden Stakes at Doomben on May 1.

Sires Produce winner, Star Shiraz, ran second in that race, one and a quarter lengths in front of Heavenly Cruise.

Caloundra trainer, Ray McCall, also has a good chance at the QTIS bonus money with Admiral Spy, which is by Strawberry Road’s son Admiralty.

Admiral Spy won well at Eagle Farm in January and then ran a close second to Miss Carolion at Doomben in early February and unsuccessfully protested against the winner.

On resuming from a spell, Admiral Spy ran fourth to Sires Produce runner-up Midnight City in the Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic at the Gold Coast.

Admiral Spy split Serenote and Birthday Bash in the Ken Russell, with that pair making the form look good when they ran the quinella in the Listed Doomben Slipper on May 29.
